Overall, I have really enjoyed this class. The Harlem Renaissance is extremely significant and is still very important to our world today in the 21st Century. The Harlem Renaissance was an important time for the African Americans and has led to many contributions that have greatly impacted or influenced our life/culture today. Without the introduction of Jazz music by the African Americans during the Harlem Renaissance, we would not have the music we have today. Jazz music has greatly influenced the music since that time such as hip pop, rap, and rock and roll.
Also, the many contributions of literature by many people of the Harlem Renaissance such as Zora Neale Hurston as well as poets such as Claude McKay have been very prominent in our world today. Although some may feel different about the literature we have read in class as well as other readings, these poems, stories, and essays are very important to many people.
The Harlem Renaissance planted the seed for the fight for equality with the Civil Rights Movement. This gave the African Americans a sense of pride of their culture and a renewed vigor to fight for their rights.
The Harlem Renaissance is still very prominent in the 21st Century. Music and literature of today were greatly influenced by that of the Harlem Renaissance.

I agree with the correlation that you touched upon in regard to the music industry being affected by past lyrical tunes. The idea of rap, hip-hop, and pop being a derivative of a larger, but lesser known type of music is something anyone can appreciate.
I completely agree with you, Michelle. The African Americans of the Harlem Renaissance influenced many aspects our our lives today. One aspect that I initially failed to recognize was music. Jazz music of the Harlem Renaissance gave way to many of the modern musical genres today. Music is extremely important to many people today just as it was during the Jazz Age. We can all appreciate the influence that jazz produced on modern music.
You’re right, the accomplishments of African American artists paved the way for the civil rights movement. They were overcoming stereotypes and took it a step further to fight for equality. Therefore without the Harlem Renaissance, history would have a very different outcome.
Youre right, I hadnt thought about how influential some of the art that came out of the Harlem Renaissance still are. Jazz was an important and influential form of music that helped shape many of the styles popular today. Im glad you brought that up.
I agree that the Harlem Renaissance was extremely important for many reasons. As you stated, the introduction of Jazz was very influential during this time period and it still is around today.
I definitly agree with you that the jazz music was influenced music today. the jazz music is very important to the music today you can hear the influence in rap hiphop of jazz. I really like jazz music so thats why i hear it in rap and hip hop.
nice. yes relevance is there. it was a good class to learn. i likied it too. the harlem ressiacne indeed probable spurred the civil rights movement. some of the more outspoken leaders such as marcus garvey and web dubois cut down trees for the paving ofthe road by martin luther king and malcom X. today Lauryn Hill and REverend Jessie Jackson drive down these roads waving flags and not stopping at the stop signs keep the move ment alive!!
I agree with what you said in the blog. The music of today as been influenced by the lyrics of past music. It was good to see that you related the Harlem Renisance to the civil rights movement.
Your post was very good Michelle and I completely agree with you. Your point about jazz music leading to the music of today is very interesting and true. I took a History or Rock class and a History of Jazz class and in both courses we talked about how Jazz and the blues, by African Americans, have influenced all the other types of music that we listen to. I enjoyed the class also.
